The first geothermal well drilled in Strasbourg by French geothermal developer Fonroche delivered impressive test results: a water flow rate of more than 80 liters per second, with water temperatures exceeding 200°C. At this flow rate, the well can produce over 300 cubic meters of water per hour, providing heating for approximately 26,000 residents and electricity for more than 9,000 people.
Another notable example is China’s Deep Earth Exploration Project, known as the Shendi Take 1 Well. As China’s first 10,000-meter scientific exploration well, the project faces complex underground geological conditions and numerous technical challenges. As drilling depths increase, the requirements for drilling equipment, engineering materials, and downhole inspection equipment become increasingly demanding.
Behind these deep-earth engineering projects, professional downhole observation equipment plays an essential role.
As a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of downhole cameras, we at AIMOLI understand that there is much more to a high-temperature downhole camera than simply having a higher temperature rating.
For more information about our standard groundwater inspection equipment, see AML921 Downhole Camera for Groundwater Well Inspection.
As drilling depths increase, underground temperatures and pressures generally rise as well. In geothermal wells, deep wells, and special geological exploration projects, downhole temperatures can even exceed 200°C. At the same time, equipment must withstand high pressure, corrosive environments, and extended periods of continuous operation.
For a downhole camera, a failure in any component can disrupt the entire inspection process. If equipment malfunctions underground, it may need to be retrieved, inspected, or even replaced. This not only increases operating costs but can also delay the entire project.

A Customer’s Question: Why Does a Downhole Camera Cost RMB 960,000?
I once encountered a customer whose first reaction after receiving our quotation for the AIMOLI AML921 downhole camera was:
“RMB 960,000? Are you sure that’s correct?”
The customer’s actual operating conditions involved a well depth of 3,800 meters and a downhole water temperature of 100°C.
I patiently explained how equipment costs vary depending on the required temperature rating:
To learn more about the AML921 equipment and its applications, take a look at Downhole Camera for Deep-Well Inspection: AML921 Features & Applications.
- Water temperature up to 50°C: Approximately RMB 400,000 for equipment designed for the same well depth.
- Water temperature up to 80°C: Approximately RMB 660,000 for equipment designed for the same well depth.
- Water temperature reaching 120°C: Approximately RMB 1,260,000.
Why can such a relatively small difference in temperature requirements result in such a significant price difference?
The reason is that high-temperature environments place much greater demands on the materials, structural design, and manufacturing processes of downhole cameras.
For example, the camera probe must withstand continuous operation at 120°C, while the cable must also have a corresponding high-temperature rating. This is not simply a matter of replacing one material with another that offers better heat resistance. It also involves sealing structures, internal electronic components, connection parts, and the overall reliability of the complete system.
The higher the operating temperature, the more demanding the requirements become for every component. A single component that fails to meet the required specifications can affect the performance of the entire system.
AIMOLI Offers Custom High-Temperature Downhole Cameras
At AIMOLI, we do not limit our products to standard downhole camera models.
For customers with different operating requirements, we can provide customized solutions based on well depth, downhole temperature, operating pressure, fluid conditions, and required continuous operating time.
Whether the application involves a conventional groundwater monitoring well, a high-temperature geothermal well, or a deep geological exploration well, we first evaluate the actual operating conditions before determining the appropriate equipment configuration and technical solution.
High-temperature downhole cameras require particular attention to the temperature ratings of the camera probe and cable, as well as the sealing system and overall structural design. Customers do not simply need a product with a high-temperature rating printed on its specifications. They need a complete downhole inspection system that can reliably operate under actual field conditions.
This is why the cost of a high-temperature downhole camera cannot be calculated in the same way as that of a standard model.
If you are looking for a downhole camera capable of operating in high-temperature well environments, feel free to contact AIMOLI. Tell us your well depth, water temperature, operating pressure, and specific application requirements. We can evaluate your conditions and provide a customized solution.
