How AIMOLI Groundwater Flow Direction Meter Helped Identify Hidden Problems in a Monitoring Well

Customer Background: Groundwater Sampling Data Abnormality Caused by Unknown Well Conditions

A professional third-party groundwater testing company had been using imported groundwater flow meters from the United States for several years. During this period, their engineer Wang frequently communicated with AIMOLI engineers about practical applications of groundwater flow direction meters and groundwater monitoring technologies.

In the first half of this year, Engineer Wang encountered a difficult problem during routine groundwater monitoring well maintenance.

One monitoring well repeatedly showed abnormal results in two water quality indicators after groundwater sampling. According to standard procedures, the well had already been properly developed, with pumping volume reaching 3–5 times the total water volume inside the well. However, the abnormal data continued to appear.

After several repeated tests, the same abnormal results occurred every time. Since other monitoring wells followed the same well development and sampling procedures with few abnormal results, the team suspected that there might be hidden problems inside this specific groundwater monitoring well.

The main challenge was that traditional inspection methods could not clearly identify the actual cause.

AIMOLI AML920 Groundwater Flow Meter Revealed Hidden Problems Inside the Well

Because AIMOLI had previously helped solve several application problems related to imported groundwater flow direction meters, Engineer Wang contacted AIMOLI for technical support.

Based on the information provided by Engineer Wang, including the abnormal well conditions, unclear maintenance videos, and groundwater monitoring well construction drawings, AIMOLI engineers analyzed the possible causes.

After one day of technical evaluation, AIMOLI engineers identified that the problem was most likely related to abnormal conditions around the screen section of the groundwater monitoring well.

At first, Engineer Wang was uncertain about this conclusion because the well had the same construction standards and operation procedures as other monitoring wells. However, he decided to use the AIMOLI AML920 groundwater flow direction meter for further inspection.

During the scheduled field service, AIMOLI engineers brought the AML920 groundwater well inspection system to the national groundwater monitoring well site and completed all preparation work.

As the probe gradually moved deeper into the monitoring well, Engineer Wang and his colleagues were able to watch real-time high-definition video images of the inside of the well.

The inspection results revealed that a large amount of fuzzy biological growth was attached around the screen openings. These substances were considered one of the possible factors affecting groundwater quality analysis results.

Further inspection using the downward-looking camera showed that many foreign objects had remained at the bottom of the well, including bailers and ropes. These accumulated materials were also potential factors affecting groundwater sampling accuracy.

The clear visual evidence finally helped the team understand the source of the abnormal monitoring data.

Customer Recognition: High-Definition Groundwater Well Inspection Technology Improves Maintenance Decisions

After the inspection, Engineer Wang and his team were highly impressed by the performance of the AIMOLI AML920 groundwater flow direction meter.

Compared with their previously purchased imported equipment, the newly designed AIMOLI system provided clearer underground video images and stronger problem-solving capabilities.

The AML920 groundwater flow meter was specially developed according to real Chinese groundwater monitoring well conditions. It uses both a downward-looking camera probe and a 360° panoramic camera probe, and has been optimized through three months of testing under different types of Chinese well conditions.

For groundwater monitoring applications, image clarity is critical. With higher-resolution inspection capability, small objects that appear tiny in normal observation can become clearly visible through the AML920 system, allowing engineers to identify hidden problems that are difficult to detect using conventional methods.

AIMOLI has accumulated extensive experience in groundwater monitoring well inspection and maintenance support. Many complex well problems encountered by customers have already been studied and solved through previous projects, allowing engineers to quickly determine possible causes and provide effective solutions.

After this successful inspection, Engineer Wang privately shared that the complete and clear groundwater well inspection video greatly improved communication with project owners and company management.

The detailed visual evidence gave everyone more confidence in future groundwater monitoring well maintenance, cleaning, and supervision work.

The project owner also recognized AIMOLI’s technical capabilities in groundwater application solutions and showed strong interest in using the AML920 groundwater flow direction meter as a professional tool for groundwater monitoring well inspection and maintenance evaluation.

AIMOLI continues to focus on solving practical challenges in groundwater monitoring through advanced equipment development and accumulated field experience, helping customers achieve more accurate groundwater data and more reliable well management.
