Groundwater pollution caused by chemical production and processing in chemical industrial parks has always been a long-standing challenge for such areas.
Last month, we received a consultation from Director Chen of a chemical industrial park, who was looking for an instrument capable of accurately measuring groundwater flow velocity and direction.
After communication, we learned that Director Chen is the head of a chemical industrial park. Some time ago, environmental authorities discovered groundwater pollution in the park, with signs of spreading.
As a result, the authorities urgently interviewed the park and required it to conduct a self-inspection within a limited timeframe, implement effective supervision and monitoring measures, identify the pollution source, diffusion pathways, and severity, and formulate response and prevention plans.
Director Chen first contacted a local testing agency using a traditional groundwater flow velocity and direction instrument. Despite extensive work and testing multiple wells, they still could not identify the pollution migration pathways.
He then turned to another testing agency using imported groundwater flow measurement equipment. However, due to the high turbidity of the groundwater in the park, the flow could not be clearly observed, and the measurements were still inaccurate.
Two rounds of testing, yet neither the pollution source nor the migration pathway could be identified—what could be done?
If the source could not be identified within the required timeframe, and no remediation or prevention plan could be provided, environmental authorities might impose penalties. In that case, Director Chen could be held responsible for negligence—ranging from criticism and disciplinary records to reassignment or even dismissal.
So, through an introduction, Director Chen came to us.

Domestic competitors mostly use thermal pulse methods, which are heavily affected by water pressure. As a result, when measuring groundwater flow within 100 meters depth, accuracy is often poor. Some imported instruments use different measurement principles; when groundwater is too clear or too turbid, it becomes difficult to observe and measure accurately.
In contrast, our Aimoli AML920 adopts a particle tracing measurement method. Regardless of whether the groundwater is too clear or too turbid, it can accurately measure the flow and even visually display the movement of water.
While global competitors are still limited to two-dimensional planar data, Aimoli uses a three-dimensional vector algorithm, which is far more realistic than competitors’ 2D data—it is essentially a real-time broadcast of underground water conditions.
Finally, we finalized the cooperation.
On-site, using the AML920 SmartGeology hydrogeological flow and direction analysis software, we conducted mirror analysis of the monitoring data and found that in certain areas, groundwater flow velocity had significantly increased and flow directions had changed.
These anomalies indicated that pollutants were likely spreading in those areas.
Through subsequent real-time monitoring, the main pollution source was identified.
Director Chen of the chemical industrial park then immediately took countermeasures, strengthening groundwater protection measures and effectively controlling the spread of pollutants.
After multiple rounds of effort, Director Chen successfully completed the self-inspection and groundwater pollution control tasks, and the submitted report was also approved by the environmental authorities.
